Black Distinguishing Features - Length: 30 - 35 cm. Teal-sized sea diver. Colouration: almost completely black with the exception of white wing patches; bill, black; feet, red. In winter, underparts, mainly white, mixed with black.


Breeds on the eastern Arctic coasts of North America, south to Labrador, Newfoundland and the Maritimes; Norway and northern Russia; southern range extends through Maratimes south to Northern New England; in Europe to southern Scandinavia and northern Scotland; nests in colonies, in crevices among rocks and boulders by the ocean.


Primarily fish and marine invertebrates.
